Joe Kirby, one of the main sponsors behind the push to change the primary election process in South Dakota, said the current primary system in South Dakota is rigged to benefit political parties.
“It’s not surprising to us that political bosses love the current system,” Kirby told KELOLAND News. “We think all voters in South Dakota should have equal opportunity to vote in the state financed primary election. Their tax dollars go to pay for the election and the salaries of the people who get elected. Yet, about a fourth of us in South Dakota don’t get to vote in the primary.”
